Little adventures around every root and fallen tree

The trail is full of little adventures: insects, creepy crawlies, fallen trees and roots to climb over, and uneven ground with slopes going both up and down. The terrain can be raw and challenging for some families, and that is exactly what makes it such a fun and meaningful bonding experience.

It's a parent and child event, so you get to be with your child, and also be a child yourself the whole way. Help them over obstacles, look out for them, and show them what it means to be adventurous and shine your inner child.

  • A good benchmark: your child can hike for around 2 hours and is happy getting a little dirty climbing through roots and fallen trees.
  • Ages 5 and up suggested, since little hikers need to follow instructions and keep pace for everyone's safety. Joining with a younger one? Come prepared to carry them when they tire.
  • A professional guide, James, walks with us to share the richness of each forest's nature and history.
  • One long loop. Once we start, there's no peeling off on your own or turning back halfway.

The Two Forests

Two wild stories, one window to see them

With both forests being looked at for housing, only around 8 hectares of each may be kept. This is a rare chance to see them as they are today.

Maju's story

Gillman's story

A forest steeped in history. Home to the Middlesex and Loyal Regiments before and during the Fall of Singapore, the battle here was one of the fiercest final clashes of the Battle of Singapore. Across 40 hectares you'll find secondary forest, streams and old waterways, crests from before the war, and even an extremely rare Ipoh tree.

Good to know: Toilets are available near both the start and end points.

If the weather turns bad, we'll cancel or postpone (guide's call). We go slow and look out for each other the whole way.

Before You Go

What to wear and bring

Same list for both walks. Pack light and keep your hands free for the climbing!

👕 What to wear

Comfy hiking gear, a hat, a shirt and pants you don't mind getting dirty, and proper outdoor or hiking shoes with grippy soles. Long pants are your friend here, since we'll be climbing over roots and there are thorny patches around.

🎒 What to bring

  • Hat
  • Insect patches or repellent (apply before we start, unscented is best)
  • Sunscreen
  • 1 litre of water per person
  • Small foldable umbrella or poncho for light drizzle
  • Snacks
  • A hiking stick (or a sturdy fallen one, please don't snap live branches!)
  • Gloves and binoculars (optional)
  • A few plasters for the odd scrape
  • A whistle
  • Any medication you need
  • A plastic bag for your trash and litter we spot
  • Wet wipes
  • Everything in a backpack, no hand carried bags

Questions

Good to know

My child is under 5. Can we still join?

We suggest ages 5 and up, since children need to follow instructions and keep pace for everyone's safety. If your child is younger, you're welcome to come prepared to carry them once they get tired.

How challenging is the trail?

This is the real deal: no boardwalks or gravel paths, just raw jungle trail with slopes, mud, roots and fallen trees to clamber over. It's one long loop of 3 to 4km, around 3 hours at a slow, comfortable pace, with no shortcuts or turning back once we start.

What happens if it rains?

If the weather turns bad, we'll cancel or postpone. Our guide makes the call on the day, and we'll update you directly.

The date I want is sold out. What now?

Register anyway and we'll put you on the waiting list. You'll be the first to hear when a slot opens or a new hike is announced.

What if I pay and there are no slots left?

It's first come, first served. If you register and there are no more slots left, no worries, we will provide a full refund.

What if we can't make it on the day?

Tickets are transferable for the same date to your family or friends. Our events do not allow for make ups, cancellations or refunds unless Mindful Space is unable to commence or proceed with the activity.

Can additional parents or siblings come along?

Yes! Each hike is S$50 for one parent and one child, and S$25 for every additional parent or child.

See the forest as it is, together

Spots are limited and these forests won't stay this way for long. Come curious, come ready to get a little muddy, and let's discover the treasures and stories Mother Nature has to share.
